A 25-year-old Indonesian migrant worker reported missing by two friends while fishing in a river in Kaohsiung City in southern-western Taiwan was later found to have drowned.
On May 28, the man named Anto, who could not swim, joined two Indonesian friends to go fishing in the Kaoping River opposite the Formosa Plastics Group plant in Linyuan Industrial Park in Kaohsiung City, The Liberty Times reported.
Later that day the Linyuan Fire Department received a call for help from Anto’s two friends. Divers from the Daliao and Fengxiang stations were sent to the scene to assist with the search and rescue operation.
More than two hours after Anto was last seen, his body was recovered and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Anto was a migrant worker who went to Taiwan from Indonesia one year earlier. He went fishing with his two friends after finishing a night shift job.
