A Filipino man has been ordered to do 160 hours of community service after being convicted of indecently assaulting a Filipina maid.
Jesnar Bade, the 55-year-old offender, had pleaded not guilty earlier to indecently assaulting the victim in her employer’s house in Mid-Levels in July last year, sunwebhk.com reported.
Bade has been held in custody since being convicted of the crime in late March, but the punishment was announced on Wednesday by the Eastern Magistrates’ Court.
Magistrate Cheung Kit-yee said all women should be protected in their workplaces, noting that Bade committed the indecent assault where the victim worked.
The magistrate said she accepted the recommendation of a probation officer for community service after considering the merits of the case, which she described as being at the low end of the indecent assault bracket, as well as Bade’s background.
Cheung ordered Bade to do 160 hours of community work on each charge and for the punishment to be served concurrently.
Bade cried when the magistrate pronounced the sentence at the court.
Earlier, the victim told the court Bade had embraced her from behind twice and tried to hold her breasts when she asked him to teach her how to bypass the alarm system.
The victim said she covered her breasts each time with her arms and halted Bade’s advances by elbowing him and telling him to stop.
