A 22-year-old Filipino maid was jailed for 13 weeks by a Singapore court on Friday after pleading guilty to stealing S$8,974 (US$6,720) in cash from her 57-year-old employer between 2017 and 2018.

The woman pleaded guilty to nine charges of theft at the home of her employer, the Lianhe Wanbao (Singapore) reported.

Her thefts were exposed on March 27 this year when her employer discovered an envelope containing about S$300 ($225) in cash had vanished from a bedroom dressing table.

The maid then admitted her guilt to stealing a total of S$8,974 ($6,720) in cash, which included 2,270 euros and 1,000 British pounds.

Part of the stolen money was remitted to her family in the Philippines, while she also repaid some personal debts.
