The trial of a 59-year-old Malaysian woman charged with murdering her 26-year-old Indonesian maid was adjourned in a court in Penang on Thursday.
M A S Ambika was arrested in February, one day after her domestic worker, Adelina Lisao, died in a Penang hospital of multiple organ failure allegedly caused by physical abuse, Sin Chew Daily (Malaysia) reported.
Thursday’s hearing was delayed due to the absence of the victim’s pathology report.
The deputy public prosecutor told the court on Thursday they had yet to obtain the pathology report, prompting Magistrate Dianne Ningrad Nor Azahar to set the next hearing for May 28, 2018.
The Indonesian government is very concerned over Lisao’s murder, with Andreano Erwin, Indonesia’s Deputy Ambassador to Malaysia, and Iwanshah Wibisono, the Consul General of Indonesia in Penang, attending the court haring.
After leaving the court they said they hoped the case would be settled quickly and justice would be served for the victim and her family.
It was learned that the victim’s family had received 69,300 ringgit (US$17,803), part of which was Lisao’s deferred salary from her accused employer. The two Indonesian officials promised to assist the victim’s family and get more compensation from the accused.
Lisao was allegedly a victim of abuse by Ambika’s family as she was seen by neighbors sleeping outdoors on the porch of a semi-detached house beside a Rottweiler for more than a month despite harsh weather.
