A Filipino domestic worker in Hong Kong has been forced to pay a bank loan for her aunt after the woman refused to settle the debt.

The maid, who works in Hong Kong Parkview on Hong Kong Island, said her aunt needed money when her husband was seriously ill. She said her aunt’s salary was not enough to cover his medical expenses, sunwebhk.com reported.

She decided to help her aunt and took a loan from a bank. The aunt promised to pay off the loan in monthly installments, but after one month she stopped paying. The bank then sent a notice to the maid about the debt.

The maid asked her aunt to settle the debt to avoid pay higher interest on the loan. However, the aunt became angry and cursed her for being disrespectful, saying the maid owed her the money for helping secure a job for her in Hong Kong.

The aunt refused to settle the debt and the maid had pay it. She feared she would get fired if she did not settle the matter and eventually paid off the loan.
