Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has reportedly said that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un reached an “important common understanding” on denuclearization and establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula with China during his recent visit to Beijing.
Wang made the comment after meeting with North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho on Tuesday in the Chinese capital.
Kim made a surprise visit to Beijing with his wife last week, where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and stated his commitment to denuclearization, as well as his willingness to hold talks with Seoul later this month and Washington in May.
Wang said on Tuesday that China lauds the North’s sincere stance on denuclearization and its efforts to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula. China also pledged active efforts to eliminate nuclear weapons from the Korean peninsula and to establish a framework for peace, according to a report by Seoul TV station SBS.
UPI, in picking up the story, noted that Wang stressed the importance of Pyongyang and Beijing developing their friendly ties and strengthening their bilateral exchanges, including through top-level meetings in Beijing.
Ri, for his part, said that the recent summit between Xi and Kim created crucial momentum to develop bilateral ties. He added that the North will continue to communicate closely with China on matters concerning the Korean Peninsula.
The North’s top diplomat is leaving Beijing and is on his way to Azerbaijan for two-day ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) that will be held on Thursday and Friday in the capital of Baku.
Ri is also expected to visit Russia in mid-April.
North Korea watchers say Pyongyang is trying to secure support from key countries before it enters negotiations with South Korea and the US.

After seeing the fate of Ghadaffy and Saddam Hunssain; it would be foolish on part of Kim to give up nuclar weapon. His family rule will end and he is only buying time to refine his weaponry. It is plainly evident to any observer, who is watchin situation in the Korean peninsula. Whoever is hoping for a nuclear free Korean Peninsula is a pathological optimist.
North Korea could give up it`s nuclear weapons and programs tomorrow, all it needs is to be put under China`s and Russia`s nuclear umbrella. Also an aliance with those two countries which would have the equivalent of an article 5 clause in the NATO treaties that an attack on North Korea would be an attack on Russia and China as well.So what North Korea needs, in the face of American aggression is nuclear weapons armed allies, and then it would be safe to get rid of it`s nuclear weapons. Certainly not before it can reassure itself that it will not be bombed back to the stone age as they were in the first Korean war by the US. where the Americans slaughtered more than 20% of their population. China and Russia should step up to the plate on North Korean security. An awful lot of problems could be swept away if a scenario like that could emerge.
As the Sirian conflict has clearly demonstrated the US is very wary of taking on the Russian Military and then if you added China`s in as well they would not dare attack. MacArthur had his azz handed to him when he took on China. so add Russia to their adversaries and the US loses big time.
The ball is now in US court. Do they really want peace.
