A 13-year-old girl was hospitalized after falling from a school building in Tsing Yi in the New Territories on Tuesday in what police say was an attempted suicide.

The girl, a student at The Church of Christ in China Yenching College, fell from the second floor of the building onto the playground at about 5.30pm, the Sing Pao reported.

She was conscious when paramedics arrived and was sent to hospital. Her injuries were described as not life threatening, but she suffered bone fractures in her pelvis.

Police classed the case as an attempted suicide, but did not find a note at the scene. The school’s mid-term exams, which last for seven days, started on Wednesday.

Officials from the school said they had been in contact with the girl’s family and had provide assistance. The Samaritans in Hong Kong run a 24-hour multilingual suicide prevention hotline on +852 2896 0000 or can be emailed at jo@samaritans.org.hk.
