An employer who posted on social media that she had forbidden her Filipino maid from talking directly to the man of the house – the employer’s husband – has provoked heated discussion among netizens.
The woman said she had set the house rule from the first day, Sky Post reported, adding that she was the middle person for all communication between “Sir” and the domestic worker.
She went on that the maid had violated the rule at the beginning and had been scolded, after which violation of the “don’t talk to Sir” rule was not repeated.
A friend argued with her, saying she had infringed on her domestic worker’s rights, and the woman was upset by this comment. But she insisted she was the boss and so she could set whatever house rules she liked.
Netizens slammed her as an arrogant employer who treated her maid like a slave.
However, Joan Tsui Hiu-tung, convener of the Support Group for Hong Kong Employers, agreed with the one-decision-maker arrangement as it could avoid the issuance of conflicting instructions for the maid.
Tsui said she had heard from male employers who said they didn’t know how to handle situations when their domestic workers complained or made tearful requests.
Hong Kong Union of Employment Agencies chairman Thomas Chan said some female employers worried that their husbands would have affairs with their maids, and therefore they would set some harsh house rules.
Chan said this type of employer usually changed maids very often.
He also reminded domestic workers that they should keep their female employers as well informed as possible to avoid any jealousy.

the better solution dont hire female helper,,hire male helper the macho man helper,i think the man boss will be the problem.hahaha.
sometimes the hkong world is so unfair.
???????????? Tama ka
The wife should tell the husband not to talk to the helper too. If the husband talks to the helper, it’s not the helper’s fault because she is complying to to communicate since the husband is also considered an employer or a boss in the house, especially if it’s the husband who signed the contract.
Mga katulad ko kasing katulong d naman kasi ilugar ang sarili nka pek pek shorts, fitted attire, low neckline shirts sa oras ng work.. Kaya c Kulasa na insecure bka akala siniseduce c Kulas tsk..tsk
Make a rule then… You my dear madame you do the cooking for sirs food and sir will let you iron his clothes if he needed to… Tell to sir dont call his helper… If thats your rule…
oh dear, sounds like ‘madame’ needs counceling if she has trust issues
Yes, There are certain house rules that the employers can impose.. But c’mon, communication…really?! This is the very basic component to have a good working relationship..
I assume this employer doesnt have kids..because if she does, I found it strange that she can trust her DW in looking after the kids and not when it when it comes to just simply talking to her husband. What if emergency happens on her absence? What if there are some decisions to make and she is not available…
But on the other hand, I think it is not just she doesn’t trust the DW. BUT IT IS MORE OF SHE DOESN’T TRUST HER HUSBAND!
For me no need to wait ur madam to tell u that don’t talk to ur sir,,honestly its better to talk to ur madam as a respect to ur madam,,not bcos sir is who the name of ur employer in ur contract, but still u should think how ur madam feel when u r talking to ur sir,,,think about ur madam first before sir to avoid problem in the house,,madam always be a madam????????
So mean, arrogant lady employer!! Why hire a maid and treats like a slave.in that case, better Not hire a helper if she don’t trust her husband..,do the house work by herself…
Its because they are always jealouse even to their maids. Some lady employers demanded not only NO TALK TO SIR.Some also demand their maids DONT WEAR PRETTY CLOTHES….as they think their maids will look more prettier than them being a boss. This kind of boss has no self trust, Sometimes what they talk is what they do, TALKERS ARE USUALLY DOERS.
There’s nothing wrong with this house rule.
Tama
hahaha Tama ok din
I can’t believe a lady boss made this rule but it’s alright,, its difficult though… especially if she’s not around…
If the reason is "having an affair "..
It seems that she doesn’t trust her husband… just fallow her rule kabayan and find new employer
Avoid this kind of employer…!
Hehhehe maybe insecure bcos the maid is pretty and sexy ????????????????
Hahaha Pg my sinasabi o tinatanong
Hndi sasagutin, none sense …hay buhay ktulong
