An underground walkway near a Singapore railway station has become a popular rendezvous for foreign domestic workers, but their displays of affection have upset some Singaporeans.
One 45-year-old resident wrote to the Shin Min Daily News to complain that some couples were displaying too much affection, leading reporters from the paper to carry out their own investigation at the Ang Mo Kio MRT Station.
The reporters discovered at least four pairs of migrant worker lovers cuddling and kissing. However, residents had mixed views about the public displays of affection, with most saying it was not causing a problem in the community.
Residents told the reporters they see maids meeting and spending Sundays in a nearby park or in the tunnel. They added that as long as they did not block the way their freedom to enjoy their rest day should be respected.
I’m a Singapore. I see nothing wrong in the public affection shown by maids and migrants workers. What about we, the singaporeans. Ain’t we the same. Are we showing a good examples too? What about the public affection shown by shown by singaporean couples…cuddling in mrt trains and public buses. We are also the same like the maids and migrant workers. Be gracious! Don’t act as good if we are the perfect nationalities!! We shall respect them and don’t treat them as a second class citizens. When we see singaporean couples cuddling and kissing in public places, we just ignore it. The same shall be done to the maids and the migrant workers. Look at the mirror ourselves and ask are we that gracious and pious?
Yeah it’s true there are some helpers doing that but they are not harm u.And not only migrants people that also young Singaporean doing it…DONT be unfair before u report think twice if your fellow Singaporean are not doing it same as the migrants people in Singapore.
Exactly! And most of all it’s their off day, they can do what they want because their enjoying their rest day with their friends or boyfriends or whatever and they don’t bother you at all. Mind your own business madam, instead go check and see what other Singaporean couple do inside the MRT.

This is absolutely ridiculous. In this complain it shows discrimination! We feel that many Singaporeans mostly Chinese look at us so differently( the helpers) that we have no right for everything. We are here to help your daily living and that’s the contract. It doesn’t includes that you can have access in our personal life. There are so many issue about maids being abuse why don’t you allotted an space for this Article? Stop discrimination!!! We have all the right and as long as we are doing our job,interfering or being busy body in such a things that cause no harm to everybody shows that you are miserable in your life. It’s a piece of crop that shows your narrow mind!!!!
They are to much when they observe migrant worker but did u look local people who did that to, its their off days after a long weekend so its non of any 1’s business of what migrants doing as long as they never block the walk way or pathway.
