An escalator broke down at a Mass Transit Railway station in Hong Kong after an Indonesian woman’s long dress got stuck in it on Sunday morning.
At 8am, the woman took the escalator connecting Exit C and the concourse of Diamond Hill MTR Station in Kowloon, but her dress got stuck in the gap between a step and an escalator comb plate, Oriental Daily reported.
She tried to pull her dress out but failed, and the accident triggered an emergency halt of the escalator’s operation.
No one was injured. MTR officials said staff shut down the escalator and replaced the damaged parts.
They advised passengers who wear long dresses, sandals or slippers to stand clear of the edges of MTR escalators.
Over the past few years, there have been a couple escalator-related accidents across the city and in mainland China.
Last year, one of the escalators at the Langham Place mall-cum-office building in Kowloon’s Mong Kok area malfunctioned, sending people crashing to the floor. In that incident, 18 people were injured, causing panic at the facility.
In 2015, a 30-year-old mother was killed by a defective escalator at a shopping mall in Jingzhou in central China’s Hubei province as the metal plate she stepped on collapsed.

First of all, filipinos also visit to.pay respects and clean the graves of our loved ones but its not the same time of the year as what chinese usually do, and employers should also be considerate if they want to swap the day off of their helper, they should tell her in advance cause she might have plans ahead already, its not that because the helper was refusing shes already not good, employers also respect the helpers situation and also its in the contract that they shouldnt ask the helper to work unless they both agreed…
Why you complain to social media Suki ? You should complain to HK government to change that statutory holiday for you.
Your problem is so simple, just pay a graveyard cleaner , why you blame your maid? You seems a horrible employer, I pity your helper how unlucky she is to have you as her employer. How I wish she will leave you soon to find a better employer.
As a Muslim need to cover your hair, your legs and hands. Hindi naman sinabi na magsuot ng long dress na lilinisin ang daanan. Very dangerous maraming incidents na long dress ang suot.
Yes! Why not swap instead other day or pay her..or maybe the employer doesnt want to pay even…so mean!
its an accident.. indonesians, are muslim that is why they wear longdresses.. but my advice is. be cautios riding in the escalators. most of the time ive seen indonesian are busy to there mobile phone…
Same happened in kowloon tong kala namin my nangyri na sa indonessian girl kaya pala nahagip ng escalator ang long dress nya
hahaha.. they always wear long dress. see?
Really mean and stupid employer seeking for attention from social media but didn’t realise it will falls back to her….pity on your helper thought she’s having a hard time working with you!!!
This employer just seeking attntion she want to be famous only.madam your problem is very simple, negotiate with your helper swap her day off than making noise in the media questioned our holiday,e helpers dont complain if employers ask us to work overtime and from day off we have curfew hours apart fr that we still need to work when we reach home..your so inconsiderate, minor problem you can not solve on your own instead your drawing attention in public.
It should nt be reported as a news ..those 12 days statutory holidays are by law and included in agreement in contract..
I mean she has a point, that we don’t have our ancestors here to visit the grave. So hoping that they will change the ching ming holiday of domestic workers to Easter holiday.
I think she is right,as she said we don’t have a part in their ching ming holiday,In my opinion why they don’t give us easter as our holiday instead of ching ming holiday, right? As a christian,it is more important to us to celebrate easter because it is the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.Hopefully they will think about it.Ching ming holiday to Easter holiday.
She should not hire a household worker then. She should do all the work and see if she can handle it. Why the Easter holiday which is for Christian culture but Domestic Helpers in Hongkong don’t get the holiday. You are lucky that you can enjoy it.
They should be aware of their long dress. I’ve seen a lot of them and they don’t care for their own safety. Wearing long dress and carry big big bags and wearing heels at the same time. During summer season more unpleasant for themselves. …
she should say the same when she gets her holiday on other event like good friday. pretty sure she doesnt make something for holyweek.
Warning
oh my..
So mean A bitter person thats describe you Suki
Then take your ching ming festival and give to us the Easter Holiday since your are not a Christian and don’t believe on it yet you are also enjoying this holiday, right?
