A 40-year-old Filipina domestic worker who allegedly opened a locked bag by trial-and-error and stole S$3,000 (US$2,279) in cash was dismissed by her 38-year-old employer and sent home in February.
The employer hired the Filipina maid while her elderly father was very sick in July last year, the Shin Min Daily News reported.
For the first three months, the maid was very helpful and worked hard, so when she asked for her wages in advance due to an emergency in her family in the Philippines, the employer agreed and let her repay the money in installments.
The employer often stored S$25,000 in a bag that had a three-digit lock. After the death of her father, the employer also put the condolence money in it.
While the maid was on holiday during Christmas last year, her employer was shocked to find S$3,000 missing from her locked bag and she suspected the bag had been unlocked by trial-and-error and the maid fled with the money.
After threatening to report the maid to police, the maid resigned, saying her employer had disrespected her and she denied taking the money.
Because no closed-circuit television camera in the home captured any signs of theft, there was no evidence pointing to the Filipina, who was not charged by police.
The employer said she also had to spend S$100 for the ticket to send the maid home last month and lost the S$500 in salary which the Filipina failed to repay.

I am agree with you sir Roger Lim!
The fact is the reputation of my fellow filipina was destroyed already
Not all filipina but usually theirs only one principal always thought our parents and our ancestors ….
Don’t steal
My parents always says this principal ….
Must contented what you have
Absolutely Mr. Roger Lim…fully agree with u. Singapore Police mentioned there is no evidence. It means there is no evidence to say the maid took the money. It’s only a speculation by the employer.
Agree with u sir 100%!

There’s no difference between any of us. Helper, boss.. we’re all the same human beings.
Just that we were born in different countries and have different opportunities.
A maid may be working for an employer.. but at the same time, this employer may also be working as an employee to some other employer. So we are all actually the same. So never feel that you are different from the next person.
The day we die, we will all be the same when we turn to dust.
very well said sir, thanks for ur comment really means a lot for us being a helper who’s working also here????????????????????

Well, I wouldn’t say the employer is nasty in this case. I would say she was mistaken which she didn’t realise.
If she was nasty, she wouldn’t have given the maid a salary advance, etc.
This is a case where everybody lose.. sad but it happens.
Easy to pinpoints ur helper! Poor helper.
Sometimes employer too much money make them confuse where they put away. With the lavish meal and accesories they bought while they are on shopping with friends, they dnt count. Until they free and feel that their wallet is empty they start panicking and pinpointing…haist, life of a helper ????
Accusing their maid as a theft has been common excused of these nasty employers!! !!
Very well said sir☺☺☺☺☺☺
Very well said sir.
well said. sir
well said..
so easy for you to accused the maid wih no proof
I agree with u sir!
very well said sir????
True, Sir.
It’s very subjective to say the maid is a thief and has stolen the money. Personally I’m not convinced.
The owner has $25K in the bag and we don’t know how much condolences money is there but I’m sure it would be a lot which is why she kept it in the bag too.
How often does the owner takes out the $25K (or more) to count? Apparently not everyday or else she would have discovered it stolen on the day or the next day it was stolen. So if not everyday, it means the owner doesn’t even know when it was stolen (or if it was stolen).
And if the maid wants to flee with stolen money, she will only take $3K out of tens of thousand dollars there? Come on… even when converted to their currency, it won’t give her a livelihood that she would sacrifice her job here.
And our police have a way of questioning or interrogating a person to find the truth even if no evidence. And if they suspected the maid from their questioning, there would then be further actions. The fact that they dom’t saying there’s no evidence means that they don’t feel the maid was guilty.
My opinion is that the owner made a mistake and didn’t realise it. An unfortunate incident for all parties involved.
My humble opinion only.
