A Filipino domestic worker in Saudi Arabia is seeking help from the Philippine government after she allegedly was not paid for one year.
Mary Jane Abogadie, who went to Riyadh in 2014, told her aunt Lilian Escalora that her employer also was not allowing her to return to the Philippines, ABS-CBN News reported.
Escalora told radio program DZMM Lingkod Pamilya on Wednesday that her niece’s contract ended in 2016 but she was forced to stay on by her employers. She said Abogadie serves 23 people on her own in the household and has not received her salary for one year.
Escalora said her niece was not fed proper meals and was locked in the house by her employers. Her passport was also allegedly confiscated.
Abogadie has already asked for assistance from the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh but is still in her employer’s home. The employer apparently said she can leave once the two newly-hired domestic workers who will replace her have arrived.
Josephine Tobia, welfare officer at the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), promised to help Abogadie and ensure she is repatriated as soon as possible.
Tobia said OWWA will get in touch with Abogadie’s recruitment agency to find out why she had continued working for her employer despite her contract having ended in 2016.

Rauff Halday may Allah bless you and your family always many thanks for being a good person.
Rauff Halday Thank you very much Sir. I just wish all employers are as good as you are. May Allah bless you more.
HOPE THEY WILL NOT GIVE MAID TO THOSE EMPLOYERS WHO R NOT GOOD
Rauff Halday Mashallah!
Rauff Halday Blssed you brother
Rauff Halday agree to you sir, it’s not about the religion, i have many muslim friend and they are kind and courteous.. some peole "muslim or christian" has evil soul and does not feel pity or guilt. Im glad that your not like them and you treat my kababayan like your own family.. allah will bless you and your family more.. you are best example of of a good and caring employer.. mabrook!!!
Thank you Hauff Halday for being a good employer ! More power to you.
I think it would be better is if these employers proven guilty then they have to pay the worker according to the law and prohibits these people to get a helper anywhere in the world…
Muslim are people and islam is religion… just like any other religion… its the common mistake that u always see all muslims are bad… people are different… for my experience me and my friends have a very good employer… they are so respectful of the laws… they are so kind and helpful… they know all their obligations as an employer.. they give us all our needs and have our day off… alhamdulillah… i feel sorry for other housemaids who are not treated well by the employers.. but Allah knows and see everything… may Allah enlightened the mind of those people who are being mislead.. and give justice to those who are being oppressed…
Rauff Halday Subhanallah, muslims should treat their helpers fairly, kindly and humanely for they are the ones whom we entrusted our home, kids & meals when everyone are busy in their work & schedules, to find a good employer like you is a blessing from ALLAH & insha’Allah all Arab muslims employers will treat kindly all those who are working under them, God bless!
DHs should not be deployed in the whole ME as they are the only ones vulnerable to be abused by the Arab and Muslim employers. When will Phl Govt realise this necessity? This is bullshit.
Rauff Halday thanks sir I appreciate your gesture…maraming salamat mabuhay po kayo????
Rauff Halday i salute you for having a good heart ..your maid is lucky to be her employer..
Rauff Halday , continue, may God bless you for that, hope your family, friends will do the same, good treatment as a human, thanks,
