Police are hunting for a man who allegedly stole a taxi in Causeway Bay on Hong Kong Island in the early hours of Monday.

At 2:45am, a 63-year-old taxi driver said, a drunk man speaking English got into his cab outside the Times Square shopping center in Causeway Bay and asked to be taken to Wan Chai, Wen Wei Po reported.

However, the driver did not understand English or the destination, as he came from Kowloon and was not familiar with particular places on Hong Kong Island.

He got out of his taxi and tried to ask other drivers for help. The passenger also got out of the taxi, pushed the driver and kicked the right-hand door of the cab before jumping in again and driving it away.

The cabbie called the police immediately.

Officers searched the area and found the taxi 100 meters away from where the dispute happened, but could not find the suspect.

Police classified the case as criminal damage and taking a conveyance without authority.

A team from Wan Chai Police Station is investigating the case. They are looking for a man who is around 40 to 50 years old, of medium build and 170 to 180 centimeters tall, who was wearing a white shirt when the incident happened.
