The Taiwanese government says it will guarantee the safety of Filipinos working there and will not tolerate any abuse against them.
Peter C Y Pan, executive officer of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO), Taiwan’s de facto embassy in the Philippines, said his government had done its best to protect the 150,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Taiwan, Manila Bulletin reported.
Pan also said there had been very few complaints reported to the TECO, the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO, the Philippines’ de facto embassy in Taiwan) or the Taiwanese authorities.
“Most of the OFWs in Taiwan are fairly treated with dignity and respect, and their human rights are well protected by the rule of law,” he said.
Pan urged Filipinos who are victims of abuse by their employers to report such incidents immediately through the MECO.
“On behalf of the Taiwan government, we can assure the public that we will not tolerate or condone misconduct or abuses of human rights,” he said.

Every Ofw here in taiwan need to treat fairly and nicely but some of the employer did not treat us good.. we went here for job as a caretaker taking care of elderly patients but most of the Ofw here not only taking care of patients we need to take care of our employers everyday lives, cleaning house’s not only morw than one. Some ofw work in a farm also. Mostly of the caretakers don’t have any holidays, spend for their own food, verbal abuse, don’t have freedom, stressed, luck of sleep.. we need to treat fairly also and we need an increase to our salary 17,000 ntd every month and we have lots of jobs to do not only a caretaker whose taking care of elderly patients but taking care of our employers everyday lives. Not a caretaker that we sign in our contract but a maid who handle all the things from everyday routines.. 17000ntd but we need to pay brookers fee for 1800 every month and a insurance of 310 every month.
We need increased also in our salary so treat us fairly ????????
Definitely true!!! Caregivers are just to care patients (able and dis able) although this is our works here it isn’t the right to treat uncomfortably… They should see and give also the right most specially our salary… They must include us for that law…. if we are not here no have anything to see elderly and to work household chores for them as well… They being unfair and unlawfull..

I disagree to what this news are talking about us (Philippines OFW here in Taiwan) because in reality brokers & employers are not following what is in the contract. We need 8hrs of sleep, but in reality most of us slept for 5 or 6hrs/day, in our contract it says that we are allowed for 1 rest day in a week (4days a month) but in reality some of us don’t have any day-off/rest day a month because employers don’t allow them to take offs, some of us 1 day-off a month (and we’re thankful for that atleast we can take a rest) but for others? It’s unfair. In our contract we only take care of grandmother/grandfather,do household chores where we live with our patient but for some (patients children) they will bring us to their house to do cleaning, or if a caretaker lives in a four stories building/house they have to clean that 4 house, taking care of the elder. We caretakers/caregiver are not treated fairly, we are the only migrant workers who has a low salary. So where is that so called TREATED FAIRLY?
the taiwan people many of them they think that we are very stupid. and cannot eat regularly in our country. we are here to work based on the agreement of two COUNTRY they obey to respect the law and rules. but some other employeer is not follow the rules in iur contract.sometimes many of the bossed is liar even the situation is not good. the, INDONESIAN, not good the Philippine is not good the TAIWAN kanho is not good who person is good to taker of the old people. I trust and respect the taiwan law is so nice country.

i hope so well,,taking elderly it would be good,, but aside from that we would merely doing task more than taking care eledrly such as all house cleaned daily, cook for whole family,washing clothes for the whole family which is not fair and abusing…. preferably its not our work.

Owwww really. This is all lie. Its far from reality. Maybe a little bit fair to factory workers, but for caretakers not at all. Protected by the rules and law? Are u serious? Physical abuse is nit only for human rights, sone or should i say most suffer from verbal abuse, emotional and mental abuse. Can we ask the taiwan government to please implement strickly what is written in our contract. Weekly day off but some dont have it. One day off that is 24hours but some toom only 8 or 12 hour, but no over time pay. So would u say that we are protected by the rules and the law?
Yes very true me here already 11 yrs same employer so many works take care 3 houses with 6 peoples cooking cleaning & everything no day off wake up 6 am sleep at 12 mignight.no increase salary.very tired b
I disagree,many caretakers working in a factory at the same time nurse to an elderly with a salary of 17k nt minus the off day if she can have it.so,where is the human rights?obviously abuses still in there.you just said that because you don’t know and you don’t see what’s really happening to the other OFW’s.
