A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Taipei at 1:59pm on Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB). No injuries were reported immediately.
Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7 to measure the strength of an earthquake. The quake on Wednesday had an intensity level of 3, as felt in Taipei City, New Taipei City and Yilan county.
The epicenter was 12.3 kilometers north-northwest of Taipei City Hall in the mountainous district of Beitou.
It was at a depth of 140km, which is considered an intermediate depth.
In other key cities such as Taoyuan, Hualien, Taichung and Central Hsinchu, and Nantou and Hsinchu counties, an intensity of 2 was recorded.
