Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said on Wednesday that he would pull all Filipino workers out of Kuwait if another Filipino maid is raped or dies there.
On Wednesday, Duterte urged Middle Eastern governments, including Kuwait’s, to treat Filipinos as human beings with dignity, Kuwait Times reported.
He said that if another Filipino domestic worker dies, he will not hesitate to impose a permanent deployment ban and will repatriate all Filipinos working in Kuwait.
“I will never again tolerate another incident of rape to the point of committing suicide. That is something the Filipino people cannot stomach,” he said.
Duterte said Kuwait was an ally of the Philippines, but abuse should not be tolerated.
“I do not want to fight with you. We are poor, we may need your help, but we will not do it at the expense of the dignity of the Filipino,” he said.
Philippine Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said a large number of the 200,000 Filipinos working in Kuwait had suffered abuse or maltreatment. “Statistics don’t lie, and there is a grave concern about the abuses in Kuwait,” he said.
Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah said expatriate workers in in his country enjoyed care and appreciation, Kuwait News Agency reported.
“The Filipino workers enjoy comfortable conditions that guarantee their rights regardless of the recent unjustifiable fuss,” he said.
Arabs are also classified as rich and poor; the rich can afford to have minimum of four wives as per their Koran but, the poor can’t even had one wife due to enormous cost of marriage. That’s why they (poor) are satisfied to have camel as their companion. Its the rich that abuse our OFW DHs. They should be punished for this abuse.
selective banning of deployment for female workers is the best option. matagal na na problema ito natutulog lang gobyerno.
