The 80-year-old woman surnamed Wang, who lives alone in a flat in Lung Fei House in Lower Wong Tai Sin Estate, went home at 1pm but when she opened the door, a man suddenly appeared and pushed her into the flat, Apple Daily reported.

The burglar locked the door and pushed the old woman to the floor and demanded to know where she put her valuables before ransacking the flat.

The man damaged a locked drawer before taking about HK$10,000 (US$1,280) in cash and a small amount of gold jewelry, which was stored in a tin box, and fled, Sing Tao Daily reported.

Police were checking surveillance camera footage from the building and hunting a man aged about 40. The thief was of medium build, 170cm tall and spoke Cantonese. He wore a yellow T-shirt and a black cap at the time of the burglary.
