A Taiwanese man was sentenced to eight months in jail by Taichung District Court for indecently assaulting a Filipino domestic worker last year who had been hired by one of his relatives.

In the evening of October 4, 2016, the man surnamed Huang visited his uncle’s home next door to pick up something, and there he found the Filipino maid alone, cleaning the floor in the living room and chatting on the phone with her cousin, China Times reported.

Huang reportedly became sexually attracted to the maid. He approached her, trying to fold her in his arms and kiss her.

Startled by his actions, the maid dashed into a bedroom, but its door could not be locked. Huang went into the room and tried to cuddle her again, prompting her to squat down and shout for help over the phone. The phone disconnected when it dropped on to the floor.

Huang then pressed the maid on to a mattress to restrain her. He bent down and kissed her by force, shoved his hand down her top and started groping and fondling her breasts, court heard.

Just then, Huang’s wife evidently showed up and went into the room because of the noises emanating from it. Finding the pair alone, the wife became furious and slapped the maid in the face, mistakenly believing that the woman was seducing her husband.

The maid sought assistance by dialing the Counseling and Protection Hotline for Foreign Workers later that day.

In court, the defendant denied any wrongdoing, and argued that he had just been playing with the victim by tickling her. But the court found that he had failed to respect the victim’s modesty, and thus he was convicted of indecent assault.
