A Filipino maid who refused to renew her contract with her Hong Kong employers was reportedly forced to overwork and eventually fell ill with tuberculosis.
In September, the domestic worker named Warren B told her employers that she would not renew her contract because of her unfavorable health situation, sunwebhk.com reported, without disclosing her age.
Her employers then started increasing her workload, telling her that she had to finish all of her work before going to bed.
Most days, she was unable to get any sleep until 3am and had to get up just a few hours later. The earliest time she was able to get to bed was 11pm. She became exhausted by her heavy workload and lack of sleep.
On October 15, a fellow domestic worker noticed Warren had difficulty breathing, was coughing frequently and had a high fever. She took Warren to Queen Mary Hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with tuberculosis.
After suffering from high fever and coughing for 10 days, she was transferred to Grantham Hospital in Aberdeen on October 25. She was confined to the hospital until her health improved.
She received medical treatment for a month and was finally able to leave the hospital on November 14. With her employment contract now expired, she could finally return to her home in Cebu in the Philippines, which she did immediately after being given clearance that she was fit to travel.
In Hong Kong, employers or employees are required to give a one-month notice if they want to terminate an employment contract or the contract is going to expire.

It has relevant w her heavy workliad,,& lack of slleep..ALL our systems need more time to rest,,so w/o it,,sytems may fail,,so this is it,our co filipina cant cope up wth those burdens..,so She got ill & worsen her health ..
She really needs rest to restore her health….

mr Ang put your situation in place of this helper and see what will happen to you not enough sleep rest and too will deteriorate the immune system of the body and thats the cause of sickness

But in some cases,due to a very tired situation,the body and mind it really can cause this kind of sicknesses,in a very serious case some are coughing with blood(my sister).

Jason Ang..in laymans term…overworked indirectly caused TB…because of overworked, the maid did not get enough sleep,and because of that her immune system declined which made her susceptible to infections including TB..now, can you see the relevance… If still can’t…then,better research on the meaning of relevance…

The relevance is that since she’s exhausted already from too much work and stress, her immune system can’t function properly. So,it’s easy for her body/immune system to catch up different types of disease and unfortunately for her, she’s caught up with that TB…OVERWORKING will make you sick and not only tuberculosis will catch you,there’s more to that illness…. Are you superman that you cant get sick thru overworking?….Try that to yourself and let us know if you cant get TB or worse!

Back febuary my cousin was get sick..she was complaining she has lack of sleep and over work in her employeer home,.she got cough and fever for almost weeks,after she got her check up and have her medications..after a couple of days still she is not getting well and done another check up in tai po hospital,.the hospital said its better for her to rest in the hospital for fast recovery,but after three days we are all shock of the news we recieve,she suffered mass blood vomiting and suddenly having a heart attack that make her dead for 15 minutes,she was retrieved but she was under coma for almost three weeks..she passed away and the cause of her death is tuberculosis,..for those who questioning what is the connection of tuberculosis to overwork?hope i enlightened your mind!my cousin work hard,but sleep late and wake up so early..eat late and eat not a balance diet,.our body need rest and healthy food to make our immune system stronger and better.
When you’re immune system is weak.. From too much work and have lack of sleep it is possible for any person to be infected by any disease. It doesn’t mean you’re case is the same as hers. Do not compare yours to others. Just like your attitude to ours. Are you a doctor yourself to ask anyone just trying to express themselves that differs with your own understanding how this disease can affect people? This attitude doesn’t make you look good!
