Police have arrested a bus driver for dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm – to a young woman from Mainland China – at a traffic blackspot in Kowloon’s Mong Kok on Wednesday.
The 47-year-old driver, surnamed Liu, was driving a Citybus on route A21 along Nathan Road in Mong Kok at about 4pm and turned left into Argyle Street, only to knock down a 19-year-old woman surnamed Huang, who had just crossed the street and was standing at the edge of the pavement outside the HSBC Building, Apple Daily reported.
It was believed that the bus went too close to the pavement and, after making the turn, hit the woman, with a wheel rolling over her right foot. Her ankle was fractured in the accident.
A passer-by who knew first-aid immediately called the police, then comforted the woman and used his leather belt as a tourniquet to stop any bleeding. Paramedics arrived in 10 minutes and sent her to a hospital for medical treatment, HK01.com reported.
The location is a traffic black spot where many accidents have happened – at least 15 involving casualties over the past year.
