A Hong Kong business chamber has invited Alan Peter Cayetano, the foreign affairs secretary of the Philippines, to be guest of honor at an upcoming carnival featuring China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
From this Friday to Sunday, the Belt and Road Fest, organized by the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC), will be held in Chater Garden in Central on Hong Kong Island, Wen Wei Pao reported.
Dr Jonathan Choi Koon-shum, chairman of the CGCC, said he believed that Cayetano’s presence showed the Philippine government wanted to improve its relationship with Hong Kong, hoping more Hong Kong people from the city travel to the country, Ming Pao Daily reported.
The chamber has spent around HK$4 million (US$512,600) to arrange the carnival, which will have 40 booths showcasing the unique cultures, histories, food and drinks of various countries and regions along the Belt and Road route, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and South Africa.
A wide range of performances, lucky draws, games and 360-degree virtual-reality games on tourists spots will also be included in the three-day carnival.
