A 51-year-old man was jailed for 14 months and 2 weeks by Singapore’s District Court on Thursday after being convicted of molesting a domestic worker from Indonesia, aged 23, and insulting her modesty.

Defendant Saffie Supa’at – the husband of her employer – began to bother the maid three weeks after she arrived in December 2015, The Straits Times reported on Thursday.

The court heard that the man first touched the maid lightly on her buttocks while she was drying plates in the kitchen.

His action was said to have escalated a few days later. Supa’at licked the maid’s panties in front of her after confirming that the underwear was her’s, according to a report by Channel News Asia, which cited the victim’s testimony.

The defendant was convicted of molesting the maid four times and twice for insulting her modesty.

These incidents were exposed when her employer was checking the maid’s belongings and found her personal notebook, which mentioned the “very shameful” conduct of the employer’s husband.

Her note was intended for the couple’s eldest son, but the maid never showed it to him, as she feared it would spoil relations within the family.

The employer threw away the notebook containing the note, and the maid was asked to pack her belongings the next day – January 31, 2016, after she had a discussion with her husband.

The victim sought help from another maid on February 1, then filed her case to the police.
