Wuhan has recently introduced a minimum annual salary guide for college graduates, setting an undergraduate degree at 50,000 yuan (US$7,588), a master’s degree at 60,000 yuan, and a doctoral degree at 80,000 yuan, the 21st Century Business Herald reported.
The guide, announced by the local government, aims to keep college students in the city after they graduate, the report said.
In January 2017, Wuhan proposed the implementation of a graduate start-up program, and has since announced a series of policies to support the bold initiative.
Chen Yixin, deputy secretary of the Wuhan Municipal Party Committee in Hubei Province, said in August the city’s goal is to become “the most friendly city to college students,” and to entice “1 million college students to stay after they graduate” in five years.
A Wuhan Municipal Government official told the 21st Century Business Herald that the new rule represents “Wuhan’s sincere and humble welcome to young talent.”
