A 22-year-old woman from Zambia was arrested for allegedly abandoning a newborn baby girl on a busy Wan Chai road on Hong Kong Island on Wednesday.
Police received a report at 7:30am that a newborn baby was found near a rubbish bin outside China Life Insurance Building on 313-317 Hennessy Road in Wan Chai, HK01.com reported.
The baby was naked with her umbilical cord still intact in a foam box near the rubbish bin without any cover. She was unconscious when found.
Paramedics arrived and sent the baby to Ruttonjee Hospital but she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
An employee surnamed Yip at a nearby newspaper stall said she was told by a passer-by that a baby had been found near the rubbish bin, Oriental Daily reported.
Yip went to check and found the baby with dark skin color. She informed her employer, who called the police.
Police cordoned off the area and investigated footage from surveillance cameras on nearby buildings to try to find who left the box with the baby. They later arrested the young African woman in Wan Chai.

The mother is 22. the father of her child mau have abandoned her and maybe the young girl had no means ofraising the baby alone but she could have brought the baby to the church or she should have sought the help of tee Social Wlfare or the Samaritans Group or the Pathfinders Group I am sure the Samaritans Group and the Pathfinders Group could help her with the baby. Now it’s too late.. You will end up in jail…
