A video went viral on social media showing a woman narrowly avoiding being hit by a car while crossing a road in Sai Kung in Hong Kong’s New Territories on Wednesday.

At 7am, a woman aged around 60 was standing on a sidewalk near a traffic circle in Sai Kung’s Nam Wai area, Sing Tao Daily reported. She waved her hand and stopped a car before running across the road, but she suddenly fell down while halfway across.

A white car approached in the other lane, and the driver twisted the steering wheel and stopped just in time to avoid hitting the woman while she was on the ground.

She stood up and waved to the driver before leaving.

It was believed that she might have wanted to catch a minibus on the other side of the road.

The incident was captured by a dashboard camera and went viral, after which many netizens condemned the woman for jaywalking, Headline Daily reported, adding that there was a pedestrian crossing facility only 10 meters away.
