A 37-year-old Indonesian woman hired as a domestic worker in Singapore since 2010 was sacked by her latest employer, who allegedly found – via a chat history on the maid’s mobile phone – that she was engaged in sex work on her days off.
A working mother of two surnamed Chen, who had given birth to her second son in October last year, hired the Indonesian domestic helper, whose name was not known, in June to take care of household chores so her mother-in-law could concentrate on looking after the 8-month-old grandson, Lianhe Wanbao (Singapore) reported over the weekend.
The Indonesian maid was said to have worked efficiently during the first two months. However, she was seen to frequently sneak out to her mobile phones and allegedly damaged items while cleaning without admitting that to the employer’s mother-in-law.
A drastic change in her temperament was noted after her weekly days off, as she often wore heavy make-up and returned home late. That resulted in her failing to work on time the next day, as she allegedly overslept and rarely let go of her cellphone.
On September 26, Chen took the opportunity to check on her mobile phone while the maid was having a shower. She allegedly discovered text messages to and from at least four male migrant workers regarding the possibility of having sex. The maid also asked the men to cover her cellphone top-up expenses.
Two days later, Chen, together with a relative, reported the situation to the employment agency, which terminated the maid’s work contract and promised to send her home as soon as possible.
When the maid was asked to leave, she allegedly did not ask why – but admitted to Chen that she was casual about her relationships, her employer told the newspaper.
We really dont know what happened this case is just one sided if it is really true,sometimes employers are liar they will just send back home directly accusing poor maids ..so unfair
The employer is wrong to have looked into the maid’s phone behind her back. However it is also wrong for the maid to be illegally selling sex outside of her work. Anything happens to her is the employer’s liability. You may say that it’s her life, she can do whatever she can on her off days. It is also the responsibility of the maid to note that her so called private life is not to affect her work which she somehow failed by showing drastic attitude change and overslept often. Yes she can have sex with anyone whatsoever, however if she brings diseases home and affect others in employer’s home, who is going to take on the responsibility? Seriously, some maids really need to re-evaluate and ask themselves why they are here to work in the first place.

First ,the employer is wrong to go through her helper’s phone eventhough she is the boss. And the helper too should not neglect her work after off days. But they should discuss it together .
And this is a case that should be privately discuss in between employer, helper and agency. But when it goes public like this , it will affect other indonesian helper dignity.same goes with Filipina helper.

To the employer, its non of your bussiness what the maid doing her off day. She have the needs and she did outside. Idiot respect the privacy even she is the maid

you do not have any rights to even touch your maids fone or belongings… how much more to invade her privacy by reading her messages.. stand on where you’re supposed to be ms. chen… do you allow your maid or even other person to do the same thing with you without your knowing?… no right?.. the same thing you will call the police and what?… if i were your maid i should have called the police too… by the way your only concern is about your maids job not her personal life unless she’ll share it with you.
My sister’s maid went missing for 2 days. My sister have no way to contact her but checked on her belonging. She had a lot of forgein currencies in big notes. Photo showed she was having affairs with two forgein workers and was pregnant. She is married with 2 kids. She was unable to return coz she went for an illegal abortion due to severe blooding.

Its not tge employer bussiness whether tge maid do such things its her off day but for the maid she must do her work good on her working day thats all
Opppppsss human rights violations… Nobody has the right to check or even touch anybody’s things without permission. Yes maybe it is bad of what she did but she also had a right to sue her employer it’s her privacy. Employers should know their limitations.That’s the problem many of us don’t know their rights and their limitaion.
Alin Villano Piano agree with you only stupid employers will do that to their maids.We knew that we all have rights and privacy as well but when we enter this kind of job our rights and privacy will be taken away with us.Because they thought that we are as low as animal and thought that we are uneducated people that’s the reason why we are treated that way.And to those agencies that only sucking money from the maids..All of you should be burned in Hell..I hate agencies bcs i knew how they treat maids..I’ved been in singapore before "the agencies feeding 7maids 1 small can of sardine and 1 cup of rice and this cup of rice must be cooked like porridge so that those 7maids will be able to eat.This is my experience in Singapore…

The employer side of a story????..how aboutvthe maids version?…sometimes we have to listen to the both side b4 we judge the situation????…not only maids..a lot of employers can tell a tale now a days as well???? coz many agencies blvd the employers more than the employees.
The employer has no right to check her mobile phone. And why she still need to tell the whole world about her helper! Is this employer alright??? What if someone also check her mobile phone???
