A 62-year-old monk from a Buddhist temple in Hong Kong’s New Territories was arrested by police in Tsuen Wan last Friday for allegedly raping one woman, on two occasions, and indecently assaulting another, in September.
Surnamed Chan , the man is a monk from mainland China and runs the Yan Chi Monastery in Tuen Mun, Apple Daily reports. Known as Jie Xiu, he is alleged to have raped a woman at the monastery on September 17.
The woman in question was attending the monastery for the purposes of worship when she fell unwell. It is alleged she was then taken to a room and raped by Chan, who wore robes but did not use a condom. She says that he warned her not to tell anyone.
On September 19, it is alleged the woman was visited at home – where she was sick – by Chan, and raped a second time.
The woman only revealed that she had been assaulted when she found out that her elder sister had also been a victim. The latter has accused Chan of touching her breast and kissing her face on September 23, at a place of worship in San Po Kong, in Kowloon.
Both women reported their cases to police on October 3. Headline Daily reports that it is understood the younger sister has mental disabilities.
Chan was arrested on Friday for alleged procurement by false pretenses for the purposes of an unlawful sexual act. He was released on bail but ordered to report to police in early November, HK01.com reported.
