BMPT-72

After the disastrous experiences of the first Chechen war that led to the destruction of the Russian mechanized forces in the concrete canyons of Grozny, Russia has been slowly developing a heavy infantry fighting vehicle for urban combat, reports military website Vantage Point North.

The new vehicle is said to be based on Russia’s tried and tested T-72 main battle tank. The vehicle is designated the BMPT, with a catchy nickname the “Terminator”. The website says that one of the futuristic armored vehicles has been sent by Russia to support government forces in Syria.

Foreign powers often find civil wars useful in testing new stuff. Past examples include Hitler in Spain and Uncle Sam in Vietnam.
