A woman who was reported missing on Wednesday night in Repulse Bay on Hong Kong Island was found dead on Thursday morning.

At 9pm on Wednesday night, a swimmer called police to say he had found a bag with a pair of slippers and some personal items left on the beach but the owner was not around, Apple Daily reported.

Police arrived and found a wallet and ID card in the bag belonging to a woman of Filipino origin aged around 40, Oriental Daily reported.

Police suspected the woman was missing. They launched a search overnight together with firemen from the diving unit and officers from the Government Flying Services department.

At 6:15am on Thursday, a swimmer surnamed Tsang called police to say he had found the body of a woman wearing a swimsuit and floating about 100 meters offshore, Apple Daily reported.

The woman was dead when firemen got to the scene.

Police believed it was the woman of Filipino origin who was reported missing on Wednesday night. They believe the woman drowned while swimming as there were no signs of foul play.
