A 19-year-old Hong Kong man who tried to impersonate a Singapore Airlines pilot has been arrested for suspected indecent assault. Police said a 15-year-old girl reported on September 13 that the suspect, surnamed Sit, indecently assaulted her on a bus on Lantau Island on September 10, Apple Daily reported.

During their investigation of that case, police confiscated two fake Singapore Airlines staff cards identifying Sit as a “first officer” and including his photo.

Singapore Airlines said the man was not one of their pilots and that it had filed the case with police.

It was understood that Sit had been very active in several WhatsApp groups dedicated to airlines and airport staff in which he claimed to be  a co-pilot.

After her alleged assault, the girl shared the incident on social media and at least 50 people responded that they had been deceived by Sit, Sing Tao Daily reported.

In some cases, Sit allegedly failed to pay a dinner bill or didn’t repay debts.

The Lantau District crime unit is following up on the case. Sit was released on bail but ordered to report to police in early October.
