National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn

As Fed Chairwoman Janet Yellen’s term winds to an end, and leadership post vacancies on the bank pile up, the Wall Street Journal reports even more uncertainty.

Director of the National Economic Council Gary Cohn had been seen as a shoo-in to take Yellen’s place, but sources are now saying Trump is unlikely to nominate the former Goldman Sachs exec.

The change in Mr. Cohn’s chances potentially increases the odds that Yellen will be nominated for a second term, and opens the door to a list of other choices:

“Other names that have been discussed by Mr. Trump and his team as possible nominees to top Fed posts include former governors Lawrence Lindsey and Kevin Warsh, former BB&T Bank chief executive John Allison, and Stanford University economist John Taylor, according to people familiar with the discussions”
