The unified All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Tuesday removed General Secretary VK Sasikala from all party positions by passing a resolution that only those appointed by Jayalalithaa before her death shall continue to be office-bearers, according to media reports.
Calling Jayalalithaa the “eternal general secretary” of the party, it said that nobody could take over her role, the Business Standard reported. The resolution said, “General secretary post is always to be held by Amma and it shall remain forever, and only Amma has all the credibility to be there. There is no one else for the post and the bylaw is ratified to that effect.”
The party affairs will be handled by the steering committee, which will be headed by O Panneerselvam and Edappadi Palaniswami. The report added that the decisions taken at the general council meeting were subject to the Madras High Court’s final decision.
Meanwhile, TTV Dhinakaran, Sasikala’s nephew, said that the government has lost the trust the people of Tamil Nadu, so Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his council of ministers need to resign.
“[Palaniswami] and others have no moral right to sit in positions of power that was once wielded by Jayalalithaa. We will send this government home,” Dhinakaran said in a press conference.
