Authorities in Taiwan have been warned about a female migrant worker from Indonesia reported to have voiced support for Islamic State (IS) on social media outlets. The alert comes on the eve of the 2017 Summer Universiade.
Lai Hsiang-lin, head of Taipei City government’s Department of Labor, said the department had received the IS-related intelligence on late on August 18, and immediately informed the National Security Bureau and National Police Agency, the Central News Agency reported over the weekend.
A preliminary investigation said the Indonesian woman, who was registered and staying as a migrant worker in Taiwan, had been recently written comments in favor of the terrorist organization on social media platforms.
However, no information was given suggesting an imminent terror attack in Taiwan or the 2017 Summer Universiade. At the time of the report, officials were yet to confirm that the woman was still in Taipei.
The Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) in Jakarta has also been alerted and asked to assist the probe, as the woman’s posts were written in her native Bahasa Indonesian language.
