A 54-year-old female landlord alerted the police after she found 11 guns in her apartment in Discovery Bay on Lantau Island on Tuesday.
At 11:30am, the woman, surnamed Hui, who owns an apartment on Parkridge Cresent in Discovery Bay told police she had found three rifles and eight pistols in her unit, Sing Tao Daily reported.
Hui was shocked to see the guns and said she suspected they were left behind by a 50-year-old former tenant, who had just moved out.
Police arrived and took all the guns for evaluation – but it appeared to be a false alarm.
A preliminary police investigation suggested the rifles and pistols were in fact toy guns.
A crime unit from Lantau district was looking into the case, Oriental Daily reported.
