A man returned home from the United States on Sunday to find the skeletal remains of his 63-year-old mother at her apartment in Mumbai, PTI reported.

The deceased, identified as Asha Sahani, lived alone in a luxury flat on the 10th floor of Bellscot Tower in Andheri. Her son, Rituraj Sahani, who works for an IT company in the US, said he last spoke to her in April last year.

A police officer told PTI, “Rituraj landed in Mumbai today. After he reached their house in Lokhandwala, he rang the doorbell but did not get any response from inside. Rituraj then called a key maker and got the door opened around 4.30 pm.” When he entered the house he found his mother’s skeleton.

“Rituraj visits India to meet his mother either once a year or every six months. He last spoke to her in April last year. He claims that he has no relatives in the city,” police said.

Her body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. A case of accidental death was registered and an investigation was under way.
