Four Mongolians aged from 27 to 37 were arrested for alleged theft of 23 watches in a shopping mall in Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon on Thursday.

At 10am, a security guard reported to police that a broken closet was found in a watch shop on the second floor of The ONE, a shopping mall on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, Sing Pao reported.

A total of 23 watches worth HK$40,000 (US$5,116) were stolen.

After investigating surveillance camera footage from the shopping mall and nearby buildings, police located the suspects.

At 3:30pm, police from Yau Tsim Police station arrested a 37-year-old woman, holding a Mongolian passport, in a guesthouse in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The others – three men, who all arrived in Hong Kong on Thursday – were arrested in a guesthouse room at Chung King Mansions in the same area. All the missing watches were recovered.

Police believed the suspects worked as a gang of thieves with the woman masterminding them, Oriental Daily reported.
