A 40-year-old domestic worker shielded her employer’s four-year-old son from serious injury when they were hit by a driver backing up car in Hung Hom in Kowloon on Tuesday.
The maid, whose nationality was not disclosed by the police, and the boy surnamed Lau went out for lunch about noon. They walked to the intersection of Bulkeley and Ming On streets, when a private car on Bulkeley Street began backing up – without the driver being aware of the pair behind the car, Oriental Daily reported.
The maid immediately grabbed the boy and held him tight. Both were hit by the vehicle and fell on the ground before the 28-year-old driver surnamed Chow stopped his car.
The maid injured her legs but the boy was only scratched. Both were sent to hospital by ambulance.
Police arrived and investigated the accident. Chow passed a breath test for drugs or alcohol, Ta Kung Pao reported.
It is not known if police planned to charge the driver.

Silly post. racism must stop right here!
What Nationality???? If the maid did bad things, the nationality is so big or headlines..if the maid did something good…the nationality is disclosed! Why???
The maid had no choice. If she did not protect the boy her employer might accuse her of negligence.
Very well said ma’am,
That’s so true.
the driver must penalty to his careless backdrive with out paying attention justice to house maid who save the boy .. and paid to her bill out till she get well soon …
The article is always like these when the helper did a good job. BUT IF THE HELPER DID/SUSPECTED ON DOING SOMETHING’S WRONG, IT’S IN FULL INFO.
Nhe Jean …you can say that again…they love their pets more than the one helping them most ..
Why disclose the nationality of the helper..if negative news you can read every details of the offense the helper made. Now a hero to the family nobody wants to tell..just curious!!!
ayan f good deeds di nila ilalagay nationality.,hehe pansit q lang
It doesn’t matter what country she came from for us we do only are job.
Thats true.
if this was a celebrity, this would have been big news, detailed revealed, reporters making a fuss.. is it becasue society deems her as "just a maid" that no proper media coverage is done here? and what happened to the driver of the car? What is the police report on this one?
Thanks God both of them saved…
regardless of nationality, its good to know that helpers(to be sound more friendly&valuable) rather than simply saying "maids" (sounds more like a slave)…is being recognized for this heroism acts anywhere in the world but sad to say that "ONLY a FEW" employers can see that..or they simply ignored that for a thought that theyre paying for the service…ah lets say… 24/7 instead of 8~10hrs.. …the worst thing is most helpers are still deprived with enough food and salary….SALUtE to those employers who have given enough..and SHAME for those who are still paying helpers below minimum and expecting the BEST service…
#treathelpersgoodAndThey will treat u good
i agree..esp when a foreigner did something wrong, the nationality was alwys on top..
what? ur headline! the maid injured her legs?
What was maid nationality ? Everytime first thing hk news does that why not on this one?
That is why maids are called superheroes…
Those heartless employers should read this article
