William Hoagland, former Republican staff director for the Senate Budget Committee and senior vice president of the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington painted a pretty grim picture of Trump tax bill prospects for this year, speaking to Bloomberg:
“There’s a train wreck coming… I don’t see a tax bill in 2017 at all. Not at all,” Hoagland said. “Not comprehensive tax reform. No way.”
Divisions within the Republican party are “too stark, too great” to pass a budget resolution this year, he added. “From my perspective and from past experience, we’re very late on everything right now.”
The comments come as Republicans struggle to reach consensus on a controversial healthcare bill, which would include tax cuts important to further tax legislation. Public support of the healthcare bill has been hovering around 20%.
