A 33-year-old woman from mainland China was jailed 24 days after pleading guilty to one count of recklessly causing injuries to an employee of Singapore Airlines after being denied issuance of a boarding pass at Singapore Changi Airport last month.
At 11pm, on June 11, the passenger had a heated dispute with a 30-year-old female member of Singapore Airlines staff, surnamed Chan, at Terminal 3 of the airport’s Departure Hall, Shin Min Daily News reported.
The woman was refused a boarding pass for the flight she wanted to take to Beijing. She had made the booking with the credit card of a relative but failed to provide the airline with any personal details of the credit card holder and was asked to get her relative to contact the airline’s office in mainland China to set the matter straight.
The woman was said to have become emotional and yelled at Chan. She was even more furious when she learned that refunds can take up to three weeks to complete.
According to The Straits Times, the woman grabbed a “Counter Closed” sign, measuring 26cm by 6cm, and threw it towards Chan, who then sustained bleeding from cuts on her left eyebrow and nose.
She was arrested the following day at a hotel, and later found to have been previously diagnosed with schizophrenia. However a psychiatrist confirmed that she was not of unsound mind at the time of the offense.
