The employers of the Singapore domestic helper who was photographed sleeping in the corridor outside their Housing Development Board flat last Sunday have stated that the incident was due to a miscommunication. The worker has corroborated their explanation.
The controversial photo was uploaded on Monday to the Facebook page “Filipinos in Singapore”, accompanied by a comment that the maid had been forced by her employers, who were away on holiday in India, to sleep in the corridor on Sunday.
The photo quickly went viral and has been shared over 4,000 times on Facebook, with thousands of commenters accusing the maid’s employers of being irresponsible, Shin Min Daily News reported.
When the maid saw on Monday that the photo had gone viral, she forwarded the post to her employers, who contacted the Ministry of Manpower in Singapore to arrange a meeting for Tuesday to allow them to explain. They said the incident was due to a miscommunication.
The maid also posted a comment on Facebook to clarify that she had decided to stay in the corridor on Sunday evening to wait for her employers, whom she mistakenly understood to be returning imminently. She said that she considered her employers to be friendly and generous toward her.
The Facebook page “Filipinos in Singapore” later took down the post and some media removed the original reports from their websites.
On a subsequent visit to the flat, a Shin Min Daily News reporter said the maid was minding her employers’ children and seemed happy.

If the employer is not comfortable that the maid will sleep in her house,then provide the maid(us) a proper shelter for the time being.
And one thing more employers varies in the way they trust their helpers ,others would give them keys n everything , others would even allow Friends of their helpers to come over , others allow their helpers to feel free and get food whenever they want, other a would even pay for a Two to four short holidays for their helper or ask their helper to bring one relative if theirs and pay for their ticket to visit their helper …they won’t even bother ….. but on the other way around other employers will be half strict maybe less food , they’ve got curfew during their off days and no friends allowed in the house , and they even need to pay medical expenses etc etc even their own food …… while the rest of the employers totally restrict everything ….. from mingling with others , having their phones , food with just 2 slices of bread or few rice and viand , and just water or blunt coffee…… and no day off …… sad part but moreover please don’t treat helpers like SHIT ….. ur r dealing with people …even animals are needed to be treated right . So treat everyone else right…. and to be equal treat employers properly as well give them the respect that they needed. Don’t judge them ….. show the real you and don’t take advantage … in this way I Guess such contentment and understanding will be gained on both part
Helen Cendana ….live out in Singapore is strictly not permitted but I Guess there are some who allowed this agreement but definitely its arrange between the agency n employer ….. as Long as the employer shoulder the rent and food of the household worker …..

If they dont trust a maid …….please employers who are very mean dont employ any maid in your house do all the house hold chores by yourself do that nobody will suffer by your inhuman treatment in maid

I dont have a house key too and i dont mind as my employers treated me well and considered me as part of the family.Even the kids doesnt have a house key and d remote of the gate and it seems to be better that way.
It was a misunderstanding and she admitted that it was her fault in resting at d corridor.
The one who posted it if she was really concern should have asked her to stay in their house instead, for sure her employers will let her stay as they are neighbors.
Most important thing is how she is treated everyday at home..

Employers who are not comfortable having other person in their house should’nt hire a helper. Or provide their helper a room (live out arrangement) will be the best.
Then why you can’t even let her borrow your house key if you do not like her keeping a copy for herself? Knowing that you are not coming backhome immidiately.
