Be careful what you wish for. After Doha repeatedly asked for a list of complaints, with the aim of negotiating concessions to lift a blockade placed on the isolated Gulf state, Saudi Arabia has delivered just that.
But the demands are pretty steep. They notably include severing diplomatic ties with Iran and shutting down Al-Jazeera and all affiliate stations. Chances of that happening? Pretty close to nil. Though, it is a starting point for negotiations.
Here is the complete list from an Associated Press translation:
- Curb diplomatic ties with Iran and close its diplomatic missions there. Expel members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard from Qatar and cut off any joint military cooperation with Iran. Only trade and commerce with Iran that complies with US and international sanctions will be permitted.
- Sever all ties to “terrorist organizations,” specifically the Muslim Brotherhood, Daesh, Al Qaeda, and Lebanon’s Hezbollah. Formally declare those entities as terrorist groups.
- Shut down Al-Jazeera and its affiliate stations.
- Shut down news outlets that Qatar funds, directly and indirectly, including Arabi21, Rassd, Al Araby Al-Jadeed and Middle East Eye.
- Immediately terminate the Turkish military presence currently in Qatar and end any joint military cooperation with Turkey inside of Qatar.
- Stop all means of funding for individuals, groups or organizations that have been designated as terrorists by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Bahrain, the United States and other countries.
- Hand over “terrorist figures” and wanted individuals from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain to their countries of origin. Freeze their assets, and provide any desired information about their residency, movements and finances.
- End interference in sovereign countries’ internal affairs. Stop granting citizenship to wanted nationals from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain. Revoke Qatari citizenship for existing nationals where such citizenship violates those countries’ laws.
- Stop all contacts with the political opposition in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain. Hand over all files detailing Qatar’s prior contacts with and support for those opposition groups.
- Pay reparations and compensation for loss of life and other, financial losses caused by Qatar’s policies in recent years. The sum will be determined in coordination with Qatar.
- Align itself with the other Gulf and Arab countries militarily, politically, socially and economically, as well as on economic matters, in line with an agreement reached with Saudi Arabia in 2014.
- Agree to all the demands within 10 days of it being submitted to Qatar, or the list becomes invalid. The document doesn’t specify what the countries will do if Qatar refuses to comply.
- Consent to monthly audits for the first year after agreeing to the demands, then once per quarter during the second year. For the following 10 years, Qatar would be monitored annually for compliance.
I do not understand the why Sudia. Arabia. is turning on Qatar now, thought it knows Qatar was doing all of that..
Irrational demand and unjustified one.
Shame on Saudi rulers. There are supposed to be the role models for entire world being the custodian of holy mosque, instead reacting in an inhuman manner
Should be thrown to waste bin with the disgust it deserve.
This is completely none sense , and beyond comprehension , Quatar is a sovereign nation , Quatar is an independant kingdom , Quatar never support any terrorists groups or has any ties with , Quatar has a great leadership who is highly intelligent and has installed a great foreign and domestic policy which gives the people a wide space of freedom which is key to sucess , and finally Quatar has an ability of reaching the world audience through its news network Aljazeera and honestly to God I think this blockade is an aggression and a desire to reduce Quatar to a little province therfore it’s unacceptable .
Nothing to say just ashame on Saudi Leaders… such a baseless and trusthless thing given to Qatar- bliend and darkness coverd by them… Useless condition.. i thing they will be step back soon from Qatar………May Allah Help Qatar such peacefull nation. Love Qatar…

You can’t help but read mischief, self justification n selfcenteredness.
The demands are impossible to meet when you know the international deplomacy.
These are the demands of the Al Saud family and its Allies not Saudia Arabia.
That is tantamount to sell one’s country sovereignty.
As a leader of GCC countries as wellas the centre point of all Muslim umma Saudi would do practically benefit for true believers and it must be effective and Saudi rulers must follow the guidence of prophet Mohammad (PBH) , and we all muslims hopes a justful and mankind decision from them..try for unity of Muslim umma on based on Quran and Sunna…Allah may shower his mercy on all Muslim rulers and umma for unity…Terrerirism must be eliminated for ever ….so we hand together for unity and peace in this world.
