A 32-year-old mainland Chinese woman, surnamed Yin, was severely injured after being knocked unconscious by a black van at a pedestrian crossing near an intersection between Clear Water Bay Road and Silver Cape Road in the Sai Kung area of Hong Kong on Saturday afternoon.
At 2pm, the woman, who was visiting the city on a two-way travel permit, was crossing the road when she was hit by an approaching black van. The incident was captured on video by the car camera of a driver on the opposite lane, and was posted online, along with a report, by the Apple Daily.
The video shows a person stuck on the windshield of a passing van. The Apple Daily reports quotes witnesses as saying the driver of the van travelled some 700 meters after initial impact with the woman.
The woman sustained multiple injuries and was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where she was said to be in a critical condition in intensive care.
The driver, a 45-year-old teacher surnamed Lai, passed a police breath test and said that he did not know he had hit a pedestrian.
Lai was arrested for allegedly causing grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving and failing to stop after causing injury, according to a report by the public broadcaster RTHK. He was released on bail pending further investigations and has been told to report to police in late May.
