Police say two men who are suspected of visiting houses in the morning posing as milk vendors to plan break-ins have been arrested in possession of more than 20 stolen laptops in Valasaravakkam, Chennai.
Police identified the pair as Suresh Kumar, 28, and his brother Muthu Kumar, 25, of MMDA Colony, Arumbakkam.
Following several reports of laptop thefts in Valasaravakkam and Ramapuram, a special team was formed to nab the culprits. Analyzing CCTV footage from the area, the team found two men on bikes behaving suspiciously. Police identified them as criminals from Madhanoor in Ambur district and arrested them.
Inquiries revealed that they had targeted houses rented by IT employees and college students. The pair visited a few houses on the pretext of delivering milk and selling ice creams, and identified where house keys were hidden.
Police said when people grew suspicious of them, they pretended to be deaf and speech-impaired.
Officers said the pair the pair were arrested for stealing several laptops in Thirumullaivoyal, Avadi and Semmenchery two years ago.
