A first information report has been lodged against Google under the Information Technology Act for an alleged derogatory search result in 2015 involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The report was lodged on Wednesday in Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh under the IT Act following a complaint from Nand Kishore, a lawyer. In the complaint, Kishore alleged that while surfing nationals on Google, he came across an item that was insulting to Modi, which he said caused him emotional distress.

Superintendent of Police (City) Kamal Kishore said the report was registered under various sections of the IT Act. However, according to reports, Google has denied receiving any such complaints.

In 2015, Google reportedly apologized after photos of Modi started appearing in image search results for “Top 10 criminals in India.”
