A 16-year-old girl who is believed to have mental health problems was “rescued” by police and hospitalised on Saturday evening, after spending months alone in a garbage-filled room, reported the Hindustan Times.

The girl, who was reportedly depressed because she was losing her hair, had not taken a bath or left her flat in East Delhi’s Pandav Nagar for about two months, according to a neighbour.

Her room was filled with rotting food, water bottles, empty fast-food packets and cardboard boxes. She had been sleeping on a bed made of three iron chairs covered with a bed sheet.

She was taken to LBS Hospital, where she was cleaned up and treated for low blood pressure and a fast pulse.
