A 31-year-old Hong Kong woman jumped to her death from a rooftop in Mong Kok in Kowloon district on Easter Monday, before firefighters could set up the safety cushion that would have saved her life.
At 9:23am, the woman surnamed Liu was seen lingering near the railings on the rooftop of Argyle House, 47 Argyle Street, in Mong Kok, Oriental Daily reported. A man inside an office at Langham Place saw the woman and called the police.
Firefighters quickly arrived at the site, which was crowded because it was a public holiday. Some firemen reached the rooftop and tried to persuade the woman to move away from the edge. While others were setting up the air cushion beneath the building, the woman jumped and hit the top of exit C2 of the Mong Kok MTR station.
The woman was certified dead at the scene. No passers-by were injured.
The police did not find a suicide note, but Liu was said to have been upset by relationship and financial problems lately, Ta Kung Pao reported, citing her family.
