On Wednesday, Google announced its investment in a new undersea communications cable that will connect Sydney and Perth to Jakarta and Singapore. Google has already committed investments to four other submarine cables in the region.
The cable will provide a data capacity large enough for people in connected cities to hold 8 million simultaneous high-definition video conference calls.
Google is partnering with AARNet, Indostat Ooredoo, Singtel, SubPartners, Telstra, and Alcatel Submarine Networks to build and install the cable.
