Three Hong Kong men and an Indonesian maid were arrested last week for their alleged roles in five indoor cannabis farms in New Territories North, with marijuana plants and equipment worth a total of HK$36.7 million (US$4.72 million) seized.
At 9am on April 6, the police arrested four suspects in four premises in Sha Tau Kok, Sing Tao Daily reported. On Saturday, the police busted another marijuana-growing site in Ma On Kong village in Pat Heung, Yuen Long.
A 42-year-old Hong Kong man surnamed So, a part-time car salesman and a weed smoker, was the alleged masterminded behind the operation, Oriental Daily reported. The other two people arrested were So’s 51-year-old brother, a construction worker, and a 22-year-old jobless man surnamed Au Yeung.
A 32-year-old Indonesian woman, who was working for the So brothers as a domestic worker to clean the premises, was also arrested at one of the sites targeted in the raid, Oriental Daily reported, citing police sources. She was granted bail as the investigation continues.
The police found a total of 1,642 marijuana plants, 450 grams of marijuana buds and hi-tech plant equipment in the five locations. Police officers also seized HK$510,000 in cash, two cars and property, and froze 11 bank accounts with a total of HK$3.86 million in deposits and another securities account with HK$780,000 of stocks.
