A severe delay on the East Rail Line, part of Hong Kong’s subway system, during the Friday morning rush hour, was caused by a ‘trespass’ incident at Sheung Shui MTR station.
At 7:43 am, a 65-year-old Hong Kong man, surnamed Lee, was seen falling from the platform for trains heading towards Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau, the news website HK01.com reported.
The man was hit and trapped under the wheels of the train. He was later pronounced dead by firefighters at the scene, the Headline Daily reported.
At around 8:20 am, train services resumed as normal, an MTR spokesman said.
The deceased was found with a Hong Kong identity card, a Home Return Permit for mainland China, and an Elder Octopus card by the police. Officers are looking into the cause of Lee’s fall and contacting his family regarding the incident.
