A 19-year-old Hong Kong-born Japanese-Indian man was found dead in the stairwell of a Mid-Levels residential building on Hong Kong Island on Tuesday morning.

At around 5am on Tuesday, an expat resident who was walking down the stairs found a young man hanging from his clothes on the 41st floor of Tregunter 3, Apple Daily reported.

The young man, named Aran, was pronounced dead when firefighters and paramedics arrived.

Police confirmed that he was living with his Indian father and Japanese mother on the 42nd floor of the building.

Initially pursuing economics in the United States, the university student was said to have returned to Hong Kong last month, Oriental Daily reported.

The student had been diagnosed with an emotional disorder and had regular follow-up sessions with a psychiatrist, said a police source, citing an initial investigation. The police ruled out foul play.
